Welcome - What Can I Tell You About Myself?

Picture
Welcome to the Westcountry through my eyes. I'm based near Falmouth in Cornwall and have a great love for Cornwall and the surrounding south west. I like to travel all over the county in search of it's stunning landscapes and fantastic nature. Predominantly I photograph the wonderfully varied land we have here. I have always been interested in nature and the countryside, and from a young age have lived either in the country, or at least in a small town within half a mile of the countryside. My mother has been very influential in my enjoyment of everything to do with nature and taught me a lot as I was growing up, and my father is wonderfully artistic and his influence has had a great impact also. He was a traditional sign-writer for many years, he also painted landscapes occasionally in his spare time and has a great eye for art in general. Photography really started for me when my son was old enough to go on longer walks, and as any mother I took my compact camera to use for family snaps. It was then that I began to take an interest in using it to record what was also going on in the natural world. I enjoyed it so much that I bought myself a second hand Canon 100 SLR and 35-80mm lens, this became welded to me on every outing. Gradually over a period of time I collected a small range of second hand lenses, and as I did my relationship with photography grew from just being a hobby to rather more of an obsession. I progressed from taking macro shots of flowers etc, into taking an interest in landscapes, and decided to start to teach myself some of the very basics of photography through various media. I have to be honest though, I have probably learnt the most through making lots of mistakes and listening to valuable advice from those who are much more in the know. I now work with a Canon 1100D and varying lenses and continue to learn and tweak how I work as I go along. Practice makes perfect as they say.

Anyway, enough rambling on. I hope you enjoy my photographs as much as I enjoy taking them, and thank you for taking the time to look around my site. If at any point you wish to contact me with regards to any questions that you may have, or maybe you'd like a particular sized print or canvas perhaps, then please fill in the form at the bottom of this page, and I will get back to you a soon as I can. Regards Phil.
